Helping children and parents heal from trauma with EMDR Therapy

Learn how we can help with Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychological intervention originally developed to help people process trauma. It is particularly effective for individuals who experience distress related to past events such as accidents, abuse or loss, but is now used for a much broader range of emotional difficulties.

EMDR therapy helps the brain make sense of distressing memories that may be held in the body. With the use of guided eye movements or other gentle techniques, the emotional intensity of these memories decrease, making them easier to manage.

EMDR is often used when people feel stuck or unable to move past difficult life events. It can be highly effective for both adults and children when used safely and appropriately by trained professionals.

Our approach to EMDR

We offer EMDR as part of our individual therapy services, always based on thorough assessment and clinical judgement. We ensure that the person is emotionally ready and that the intervention is safe to begin.

We use EMDR for both children and adults, depending on the nature of the trauma

2.

The intervention is tailored to the individual’s capacity and emotional stability

3.

A trauma-informed and attachment-sensitive lens guides our work

Parents are usually involved in sessions with children, especially during online therapy
